After the tragic death of our longterm friend, performer and Actors Studio family member, Scott Lawler last August 2011. Randy and Nate determined they wanted to ensure the community had a legacy to remember this talented individual.

Up to this 2011 they had been awarding a scholarship to one (or sometimes 2) KAS performers or crew to pursue post secondary education. They immediately changed that to the Scott Lawler Memorial Scholarship and compiled a board of directors and the KAS Foundation - which also quickly morphed into not only an annual scholarship but a full blown non-profit entity to foster excellence in arts education in the Okanagan.

Only 15 months after the formation of the board  not only are we well on the way to developing an accredited performing arts program for Grade 11 and 12 but also work is underway for our ultimate goal of a post secondary theatre program right here in Kelowna’s Cultural District.

On top of the projects our ambitious board is working towards in our own building, we also have plans to reach out into the community with programming for the School District 23 and beyond.

Bringing quality performing arts training to the valley. Encouraging our participants to ‘build a little character’ as we say at KAS.”
